Phidippus johnsoni is perhaps the most common Jumping spider where I live and is the first species that I encountered when I was in high school. A lot of the most important research has been done on P. johnsoni, including the seminal work on their vision by Michael Land and important research on their behavior by Robert Jackson (read this wonderful article about his life studying Salticids). The genus Phidippus is easily the most well known in the U.S., and the most popular pets, because of their large size, adorable fuzziness, and flamboyant colors.
